Aiding and Abetting Putin

The New York Times has recently uncovered the most explosive, damning condemnation of Trump: Trump has known since March that Vladimir Putin put a price on the heads of American and coalition forces in Afghanistan and has done nothing about it. According to US intelligence, Russian GRU operatives have paid Taliban fighters bounties for killing American soldiers. Trump has known this and has so far offered zero explanation to the American public. This is aiding and abetting America’s enemies.

Trump has always been Putin’s lapdog

But Trump, being Putin’s obedient dog, has so far dithered on what his master would have him do or say.

It is worth remembering that Trump has tried to rehabilitate Putin by promising to invite Putin to the G7 meeting in the US. This was at the beginning of June, three months after learning about the contract killing of Americans in Afghanistan.

There are many lines of attacking Trump over his deficiencies for the upcoming November election, but this revelation–that Trump has stood silent over damning evidence of Russian complicity in the deaths of American troops–requires particular attention. At the bare minimum, Trump should have recalled the ambassador to Moscow immediately after learning this.

Instead of doing something about Putin’s duplicity, Trump has spent his time defending confederate monuments, which he once called “beautiful.”

The Democratic party needs to sound the alarm, and the GOP should be put on notice that Trump’s inaction is unacceptable leadership. Mitch McConnell should go on record stating why he thinks it was ok for Trump to sit on this information and do nothing about it. Joe Biden should ask the American people if they would rather have a head-in-the-sand Commander in Chief, or someone who will stand up to Putin. If there was any integrity left in the GOP, heads should have exploded by now over the revelation.

Where is the outrage on the part of those active and former military types who lost their minds over Bowe Bergdahl?

More than likely, Republican apologists will say that Putin didn’t know what his operatives were up to, that it was the work of a rogue cell. Except that Putin himself would never admit that he doesn’t have absolute control over the intelligence apparatus of his country, particularly as it relates to foreign policy.

Perhaps the only truthful statement Trump has ever made is his allowing that Joe Biden will win the next election. If only we knew this to be true.
