The Democrats should subpoena Lev Parnas for the upcoming Senate trial. Doing so will smash open the conceit that Trump holds Presidential immunity from Congress. Parnas is not a government employee, therefore Trump cannot claim that workers from the Executive branch are immune from subpoenas. Neither is Parnas Trump’s attorney, meaning that–as with the case of Giuliani–attorney-client privilege would not apply.
What would Parnas bring? For one he could shine a light on the revelation that the US Ambassador to Ukraine was being spied on by Trump operatives. More disturbingly, Parnas could clarify what was meant by Robert F. Hyde when he complained to Parnas that the Ambassador had not been taken care of.
Why would Parnas cooperate? Well, because he faces charges for money laundering, for starters. Having these charges dropped in exchange for his testimony on the Trump effort to dig dirt on Hunter Biden would be well worth it. What would be the point of Parnas going to jail for six months? Especially as the harm of the 2016 election has already been done.
On the topic of Hunter Biden, maybe it is time for the Democratic party to find some way of censuring Joe Biden for his son’s obvious lack of ethics and morals. It should be no more true that the sins of the fathers are visited on the sons, as that the sins of the sons should be visited on the fathers, but Hunter Biden is on a league of his own when it comes to questionable moral behavior.
Maybe it’s time to jettison Joe Biden as a contender for the presidency. Who knows? But something should be done so that Trump should no longer be able to make Burisma Joe Biden’s Benghazi. The election should not be lost to Trump because of a defense of Biden Trump’s behavior. It should be clear that whatever happened between Burisma and the Bidens should not be radioactively bound with the Democratic ticket of 2020. Testimony from Parnas in the Senate trial would go a long way towards ensuring that Trump does not win 2020.
