According to Donald Trump himself, he knows “the details of taxes better than anybody. Better than the greatest C.P.A”. And Trump may be right. He understands how to commit crimes against the tax code and how to get away with it. So far. So in a sense he may be right. But the days of Donald Trump getting away with cheating on his taxes may be coming to an end.
The New York Times investigation about how Donald Trump and his brothers and sisters received their untaxed inheritance from Fred Trump will be picked up by the new Democratic majority in the House of Representatives. The question remains, however, whether the statute of limitations have passed for these provable crimes. It is possible that Fred Trump’s fraud will never be punished. But what if there are more recent examples of Trump using the Trump organization to transfer untaxed wealth to his adult children? Doesn’t Trump brag that the organization is so byzantine that only he understands it? Would it not make sense that just as the Trump Foundation was found to be a scam, the Trump organization is nothing more than a group of shell companies designed to keep money from being taxed?
Given Trump’s bragging about how he knows so much, and given that he is seventy-two years old, would it not make sense that Trump has already started distributing some of his wealth among his children? Also, given that Trump got away with it before, would it not make sense that he would do exactly what Fred Trump did? This could be exactly why Donald Trump is so cocky about his knowledge of taxes. Don’t habitual criminals keep using their same time-tested schemes?
It may very well be that Donald Trump has already started his criminal activities to avoid paying inheritance taxes. So, it is very possible that the transfer of wealth to his adult children (minus poor Tiffany) has already begun. Ideally, it is only a matter of time before House Democrats start issuing subpoenas to investigate possible intergenerational tax fraud among the Trumps. Would it not be ever so delightful to see Trump, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric stand trial for knowingly committing tax fraud?
It would be just as Al Capone being caught for cheating on his taxes and not for his other crimes.
