When Lara Trump said that Trump was “having fun” with the chants to jail Governor Whitmer of Michigan, she gave a crystal clear example of the gaslighting that Trump’s defenders have been employing from the start. He’s crude, he speaks his mind, he’s unpolished, he’s not a politician. The fact is that Trump knows exactly the effect that his egging on his supporters has. To be clear, the FBI is charging the co-conspirators of the attempt to kidnap and possibly kill Whitmer as seriously as possible. This isn’t a joke. Nobody’s laughing over the attempt to blow up police vehicles and possibly kill whoever got on the way of the militia members in their plan to kidnap the Governor.
Nonetheless, we get the gentle touch of the Trump women. These enablers, who deserve their own circle in Dante’s Inferno are well-versed in the lies and innuendo that’s required to protect the Trump brand. They all have traded, as Nina Burleigh put it, golden handcuffs in exchange for fame and fortune. It is the public, in its almost childish naïvete that still takes Melania Trump seriously. Melania, she of the “give me a fucking break” about children in cages. Yes, that Melania Trump. She is still held in high esteem by people who should see right through her gold-digging and accept that she’s nothing in comparison to other first ladies. Even Nancy Reagan had a more positive effect on American society than Melania.
So, are Trump and his enablers terribly irresponsible people or are they simply diabolical? There is something called Occam’s Razor, which states that the simplest explanation is probably the most correct explanation. From telling the Proud Boys to prepare themselves, to spreading misinformation about Covid, the simplest explanation is that Trump and his orb are malicious, evil people.
