The proof of Helsinki

On returning from his trip to Helsinki, Donald Trump skillfully erased any doubts that he unfit to be President.  His fawning behavior towards Putin may not have risen to the level of treason, but it was certainly treacherous against the republic.  Arguably, Trump’s shameful cover for Putin amounts to a high crime and misdemeanor.

Helsinki should be a rallying cry for Democrats this November.  Trump’s about-face and his subsequent taking back of his clarification demonstrates he is a dotard, unfit to run a country.

Will Democrats rise to the challenge and paint Trump for the dotard he is?  What have Democrats to lose by exposing Trump to be a charlatan?

It is not evidently clear what Democrats stand to lose by pointing that Trump sounds and expresses himself exactly as the uncouth, ignorant, xenophobic 72 year old that he is.  He sounds like a stupid, ignorant old man because he is a stupid and ignorant old man.

Trump is weakened, and he no longer campaigns on the possibilities represented by Jared or Ivanka, or even any left over good will people may have had because of his television program.  Trump is now a debased politician and he has erased any doubt that he will either learn on the job or that he cares not a whit about the interests of the United States.

For example, Trump’s preposterous claim that he raised funds on his trip to NATO should be called out for the bald-faced lie it is.  These “little” lies matter and they should be put together in a series of television ads showing that Trump is a liar.

Why is this important?  It is important because, as Republicans have known for years, the modern way of winning elections is not by getting out the vote, but by suppressing the vote.  Such an advertising campaign would have the dual effect of demoralizing Trump voters and energizing Democrats to vote against the disgrace that is Trump and his acolytes.

Bring up the disastrous trade deals, the tax cut that has failed to benefit the middle class.  Bring up the rising cost of prescription medicines because Trump threatened big pharma.

The road to victory in November is not hard to see,  it only requires that Democrats rise to the challenge.
